Below is a pavilion with a balcony, where a scholar sits playing a lute at a table with incense. Buildings are on the opposite shore.Though this painting has neither seal nor signature of the artist, it has been attributed to a Sung artist. Though the landscape forms are rendered with axe-cut texture strokes and the composition weighted to one side as in Southern Sung works, the brushwork is coarser and use of ink less refined to suggest a stiffer feeling. It perhaps is a lesser work of the Che Schools and may even be an imitation done by a foreign artist.
