He specialized in painting landscapes, birds-and-flowers, and Buddhist and Taoist figures. This painting of Kuan-yin is the 22nd leaf from “Album of the 25 Great Ones from the Śūrańgama Sūtra, ” Here, Kuan-yin wears a white cloth on her head and wears a white robe. Seated cross-legged facing the water, bamboo trees are shown growing on the slope behind her. The coloring of the painting is subdued and elegant, and the body of Kuan-yin appears gracefully elongated. The flowing parallel lines of the drapery echo the crests and troughs of the waves below to add quite a bit of distortion, a feature of the style for which Wu Pin was known.
