He established his own style as a painter through exhaustive study to reveal an original yet archaic manner. Depicted here are three robust pines with one in front draped in wisteria vines. They stand in front of a mountain at the foot of a stream. In the shade lie clusters of buildings connected by corridors. Two gentlemen in the pavilion to the right are engaged in elegant discourse by the bend in the stream. Wisteria leaves were done in outlines filled with bluish-green color, making them stand out. The ink, brushwork, coloring, and tree and rock forms are all unrestrained. Though the artist claimed in his inscription to be following Chao Yung (ca. 1289-ca. 1362), the work actually reflects his own style.
