A man of natural talent and lofty intelligence, Sun K’o-hung gave undivided attention to calligraphy and painting. His paintings of landscapes, flowers, brids, orchids, bamboo, and Buddhist and Taoist figures were all excellent. In his later years, Sun K’o-hung devoted himself exclusively to painting plum blossoms in black ink. This scroll depicts several stems of bamboo in red color complemented with a rock painted in black ink.
