He was skilled at poetry, prose, calligraphy, and painting, especially landscapes. He also depicted fruits and vegetables as well as birds and other animals in monochrome ink, being known as one of the Four Ming Masters.A river extends back into the distance as spits of land and small hills sprout up from behind. Trees and shrubs are scattered about, and a figure in a small covered boat floats leisurely from bank to bank. Thick reeds are in the foreground, and the corner of a thatched pavilion is visible to the left. Shen Zhou used light colors and ink on unsized paper. His brushwork, composed of short and dense strokes, is strong, and the washes of ink are moist and hoary for a very spirited quality. This painting bears no dated signature, but the style suggests it was done by Shen between the ages of 53 and 60.(20110913) 内容简介(英文): Shen Chou, a native of Soochow, was skilled at poetry, prose, calligraphy, and landscape painting.
